

She was born on November 2, 1924 in Bristow OK to Elmer Barney and Dora Mae Cochran.
Jean, the only daughter of four siblings, knew what it was like to work hard, play hard and love her family hard. She worked at a garment factory in Bristow OK and later was employed by the McDonald Douglas Aircraft Plant in Tulsa as a "Rosie the Riveter". After moving to Shawnee, in 1950 she was a homemaker and successful hairdresser.
She married Leonard Gene Cantrell in 1942, who died serving his country in the Pacific during WWII. She then married her husband of 41 years, Perry Richard Vanderslice in 1947.
Jean and Perry (Pete) enjoyed fishing and camping on Fort Gibson Lake with family and friends. She was an excellent angler. Jean also loved to quilt and made quilts for all of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Leonard Gene Cantrell, her second husband Perry Richard Vanderslice and son Perry Michael Vanderslice.
Her surviving children are Leonard Gene Cantrell (Lindy) and Mary Kathryn Melton (Kathy) both of Shawnee. She had two grandchildren Perry Richard Cantrell (Pete) and his wife Karla of Shawnee and Steven Wade Melton and his wife Mindy of Norman. Great grandchildren include Nicholas Ryan Cantrell, Corbin Luke Cantrell, Michael Van-Hunter Cantrell, and Lily Jean Louise Melton.
Jean had a full life and will be missed by many. Services will be held 1 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee. Viewing will be Tuesday from 10 am to 8 PM also at Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial is at the Welty Cemetery, Welty OK.
