Despite decades of research, cancer treatments remain grueling and difficult. Bonnie endured them with courage, grace, and her trademark wit — often finding ways to bring humor into even the hardest moments. She will be remembered not only for her strength, but also for the quick one-liners, sharp comebacks, and laughter she shared with those around her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William “Rusty” Smith; her sister Deborah Kay Hager Berghaus; her brother Rocky Joseph Hager, and her parents, Joe “Babe” Hager and Joann Thompson Hager Shepherd.
Bonnie is lovingly remembered by her sons, Joseph Shane Smith (Danielle) and William Todd Smith (Tiffany), and by her cherished granddaughter, Kendyl Smith, who brought immense joy to her life.
She wished to thank all those who prayed for her. A special thank you goes to Lisa, Sherri, and Clarissa for the cards, texts, and phone calls that touched her deeply.
Bonnie’s parting words to those she loved:
“See ya later, alligator!”
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can gather to share stories, laughter, and memories in her honor.
Cremation services have been entrusted to Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home and her final resting place will be with her husband at Brookland Cemetery.
