

Carl “Gene” Cox, age 84, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky returned to his Heavenly Father on August 25, 2023. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his wife of 60 years, his children and grandchildren. During his life he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play various sports and fishing. Gene played basketball at Shepherdsville High School for Joe B. Hall. He also enjoyed having dinner with his son and Joe and was a big Kentucky fan. He served in the United States Army and the Air National Guard and retired early from Ford Motor Company. He was a member of Clermont Baptist Church and spent many hours studying and reading his Bible. Gene was born in Horse Cave, Kentucky on April 16, 1939, to the late Joe Cox and Sarah Heattie Cox. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Myrtle, Lorene and Punkin; four brothers, Hubert, Slim, Kenny and Jimmy. Gene leaves to cherish his memory his wife Phyllis Edmonds Cox; daughter Kim Cox; son Thomas Cox (Alanna); two sisters, Dude and Wanda; four grandchildren, Marisa Cox, Lauren Cox, Jonathan Thrasher and Jakob Thrasher; and a host of other family and friends. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and will be forever loved and missed. Arrangements were by Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with burial in Kentucky Veteran Cemetery Central at a later date. Cremation was chosen by Gene.
