Elsie Mae Welch

Mrs. Elsie Mae Welch (Benge), age 86, of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, returned to her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 2, 2026, with her family by her side. Elsie was born in Clay County, Kentucky to the late Howard Bishop and Nancy (Proffitt) Bishop. She worked for the Bullitt County School System for over 20 plus years as a cook, she was a member of Bullitt Lick Baptist Church, she enjoyed working in her flower garden, cleaning obsessively, reading her Bible daily with a cup of coffee before work, traveled to Alaska, Florida, Tennessee. Alabama, just to name a few places. However, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, Mamaw, grandma, great-grandma, and friend she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 66 years Robert C. Welch, and husband of 5 years, Carl Benge, siblings Eileen Payne, Harrison Bishop, George Bishop, Irene McMillian, Ida Faye Jones, Joyce Shelton, granddaughter Denessa Stearman.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children Sharon Haun (Howard), Jeanne McGuffin (Vernie), Larry Welch (Missy), Brenda Aubrey (Allen), Byron Benge (Janice), Becky Eubanks (Bo), grandchildren Bobby McGuffin, Melanie McGuffin- Trent (Melissa), Tiffanie Davis (Craig), Chris Aubrey (Trista), Eric Welch (Lucienne), Kristin Aubrey (Brittney),Conner Welch, Kaitlyn Jewell (James),great-grandchildren Thomas Stearman, Joshua Stearman, Julia Stearman, Nicholas Davis, Blake McGuffin, Riley Aubrey, Casein Aubrey, Ella Faye Aubrey, Savannah Aubrey, Shea Welch, Rosario Welch, Hunter Mellick, Luke, Clarke, Alyssa, Megan, Zach, great-great-grandchildren Addelynn, Audrey, Tobias, Renee, Eli, Cecelia, Emory, siblings Martha Pearl Foley, James Hiram Bishop (Pauline), Mary Louise Karsner, along with a host of nieces, nephews and other dear family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 12 noon in the chapel at Schoppenhorst Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N. Preston Highway). Visitation will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Tuesday, morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery.
