Harry E. Weatherington

Reverend Harry Eugene “Gene” Weatherington, age 89, of Fairdale, went to his Eternal Home on February 10, 2026. He was born on June 13, 1936 in Herod, Illinois to the late Harry Edward Weatherington and Flora Seets Weatherington Street. Mr. Weatherington served in the United States Army and after his discharge, he met and married the love of his life, Nina Marie Reynolds. They were married on January 11, 1958 and recently celebrated their 68th anniversary. After accepting the Lord, he surrendered to the calling and became an ordained Bishop in the Church of God. He served many churches throughout his years of pastoring in Illinois, Missouri, Georgia, Indiana and Kentucky. He retired from pastoring in 2003 where he then worked at Wal-Mart as a People Greeter. He loved God, his family and people. One of his favorite things to do was telling blonde jokes and making children laugh by calling them “George”. He was loved by so many.

Along with his parents, his brother, Russell Weatherington; sisters, Laverne Hale, Betty Foster, Bonnie Mallady and Marlene Davis preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nina Marie Weatherington; children, Sabrina Eason (Ricky), Dale Weatherington (Yong Bok), William (Eddie) Weatherington (Janet) and Lori Cox (Allen); 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Eason, Chris Brittingham, Lisa Weatherington, Amber Evans, Michelle Weatherington, Jonathan Eason, Eddie Weatherington, Eric Weatherington, Sam Weatherington and Megan McGuire; 18 great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Eason, Jonathan (Bubba) Eason, Addalynn Eason, Abel Eason, Karson Wantye, Ava Fields, Kingston Weatherington, Victoria Smith, Kaleb Gee, Emily Smith, Leila Evans, Kolton Gee, Furi Evans, Ben Weatherington, Blakely Weatherington, Nova Evans, Ollie Weatherington and Isaiah McGuire; a host of nieces, nephews and other dear family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2026 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with burial to follow at Brookland Cemetery. Friends and family may pay their respects on Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of his service at the funeral home.

Reverend Harold Miller and Reverend Greg DeGraves will be officiating.
