Mary Lou Goldsmith

Mrs. Mary Lou Goldsmith, age 75, of Louisville, KY, returned to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 11, 2018.  Mary Lou was born on May 17, 1943, in Louisville, KY, to the late John “JJ” and Patsy McGirr Ely.  She was retired from Jefferson County Public Schools.  

All her life, Mary Lou never met a stranger; to know her was to love her, and she was loved “overwhelmingly.”  She was a true light-bringer, whose love for her husband and family was outmatched only by her love for Christ.  She and her husband Jesse have been lifelong devoted members of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where their story began.  Mary Lou warmed every room she entered and constantly radiated the fruit of the Spirit.  Her gentle kindness and Christ-like love have left fingerprints on countless lives that will continue for generations.   

Cherishing her memory are her husband of 56 years, Jesse M. Goldsmith; children, Kimberly Dawn Doyel (Scott), Patricia Ann “Patti” Welch (Michael) and David A. Goldsmith; grandchildren, Michael Doyel (Lauren), Rachael Doyel, Sean and Ryan Welch; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Addison Doyel; brother, John Thomas Ely (Sharon) and a host of other dear family members and friends.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 1 pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church (5708 Preston Hwy) with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 pm until 8 pm at Schoppenhorst, Underwood, and Brooks Funeral Home (4895 N Preston Hwy) and Wednesday from 11 am until the time of the service at the church.
