

Milford Prater, age 85, of Louisville, Kentucky returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 1, 2026, with loving family by his side. He was born on October 10, 1940, in Pike County, Kentucky to the late Willie and Roma (Rowe) Prater. Milford was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he served during the Berlin Wall Crisis. He was a member of Antioch Old Regular Baptist Church and retired from General Electric after 31 years of faithful service. Milford was a master woodworker, having the talent to build anything he set his mind to. His family will forever cherish the furniture he made for them for generations to come. Spending time with his family and his church is what Milford held most dear to his heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Melster Newsome, Maxie Adkins and Mary Ruth Skinner.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of almost 62 years, Glenda (Bentley) Prater; sons, Gregory Prater (Lisa) and Milford Keith Prater (Kathy); grandchildren; Stephanie Hunt (Michael) and Heather Prater; great-grandchildren, Gregory Hunt, Zachary Hunt, Lucyann Hunt, Olyvia Hunt and Elias Bruce; brother, Miles Prater; special caregiver, Brigitte Duncan; all the other caregivers who took such good care of him along with a host of family and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood & Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with interment in Highland Memory Gardens. Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
