Sara Jo’s life began as a true miracle. She was born at home two months premature, weighing just over two pounds. In those days, doctors were unsure she would survive. She was kept warm in a shoebox by her loving parents, and from that fragile beginning grew a strong, spirited woman whose life touched many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Elizabeth McCubbins; her husband, Charles Preston; her daughter, Cynthia Preston; a brother, Roy Russell McCubbins and her beloved dog, Leo, who brought her much comfort and joy.
Sara Jo is survived by her brother, Buddy McCubbins; her longtime boyfriend, Clarence Johnson; and her loving nieces and nephews, Sharon Bryden, Lisa Woosley, Andrea Miller, Angela Shoffner, Jeffrey Miller, Russ McCubbins, Jim McCubbins, Matt McCubbins, Katie Perez, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
Sara Jo was a devoted member of Zion United Baptist Church for many years. She loved music and enjoyed singing and dancing whenever she had the chance. She also had a passion for travel and cherished the memories she made along the way. Sara Jo owned and operated a consignment store for several years and spent many years as an Avon representative, where she made countless friendships.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her Sanders Ridge family, Hosparus, and the 11th Hour volunteers for the love, care, and compassion shown to Sara Jo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity in honor of Sara Jo.
Sara Jo will be remembered for her strength, her joyful spirit, and her love for her family and friends. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
