I have been teaching for 23 years. This means that I have worked with more than a couple thousand students. Because of this high number, sometimes when a former student’s name is mentioned it takes me a moment to place them. Not so for Aidan Aufderheide. He and his brother, Elias, are two of the unforgettable ones. For great reasons. I describe them both as “total superstars.” Meaning, any mama would be proud - kind, smart, hard-working. Who could ask for more? I have so many great memories of Aidan from 6th grade social studies and language arts. From the poetry cafe to our fictional countries to the trial at the end of the year. Aidan was always involved and excited. 

Since hearing the news, not a day goes by that Aidan doesn’t cross my mind. Aidan was special and made his mark on many.  My prayers are with his family and especially with Elias. I cannot imagine how difficult it is to make peace with this. I pray for you all every day.

It’s Vanessa. I just heard about the news today and I am absolutely so sorry for the loss of your son especially at such a young age. I wish you the best and am sending my condolences and prayers.

Angie, my dear friend. I am at a lost for words and my heart is broken as your friend and as a mother. I pray that God gives you a peace that surpasses all understanding. Praying  for your family and all who love sweet Aidan.

This is hard for me to believe and even harder for me to write. I’ve been taking my time processing this moment trying to come to terms with this tragedy because the last thing I want to do is not be able to honor Aidan’s name with my words. However, I’ve come to the realization that any words are better than no words. Aidan was my oldest friend my first friend at that. Our friendship goes all the way back to our days in Kindergarten bonding over Star Wars and Lego sets and evolved into the many memories and inside jokes we carried through middle and high school. Ever since those days I can’t remember a single day I was around Aidan and didn’t laugh. His humor was infectious and always left me with a smile. Aidan was unique, witty, quiet to most but his personality was loud to others. Aidan was a staple to my childhood and I like to say I was the same to his. It feels as if we’ve been through everything together from elementary school, to late football practices, to our AP courses in high school. Almost every memory I have Aidan was with me. Even when some years we were farther apart then we would have liked, the moment we reconvened it was as if we had never left. Like twins separated at birth, he was my brother from another mother, as corny as it sounds it was true. Aidan was like family to me. When the world was changing and my life was spinning Aidan was my rock, my light, my glimmer of optimism and hope for better days. I regret, of many things, not being able to truly tell him how much he meant to me and the love I had for him. Rest easy old friend. 

Aidan - generous, kindhearted, ,handsome,  are some characteristics of his name and this is who he was. Thank you for being a friend to Joshua. Aidan was one of the first persons he meet on the 9 yr old football team , you will be missed . Thank you Keith and Angie for allowing GOD to use you to bring him into this world and sharing him with us. We will continue to pray for your family. 

Being Aidan’s uncle has been a great joy. Seeing him holiday to holiday and summer vacation to summer vacation, I watched him grow by leaps and bounds into his strong, athletic, intelligent body. He bounced that body off my boys and me every Thansgiving in backyard football games, then flattened oposing linemen wearing no. 52 for Archer. I thought of him as B-52 —a bomber of a player (who, incredibly, slimmed down and sped up to play receiver, because that was what he wanted to do.) He had great force of will and smarts, plus a competitive streak that I admired, partly because his main opposition was himself. He always tried to better his own former best feat. He was diabolically quick with Legos first and with ironic jokes later. Of all the cousins, he was up the earliest. He loved being on a night beach with his cousin-bros. He was an Olympic-class sweat-er, an elegant dresser, a quiet young man quick to reply and to smile once I spoke to him. In one of my last memories of Aidan, I’m standing on a dock behind a rented house in Santa Rosa Beach, watching him paddle my kayak out into a twilight lake. I wondered what he was thinking. He had said he hadn’t kayaked before, but his balance and line on the water were perfect. It was very satisfying to see him in motion, that calm water holding him up. 

I met Aidan during my freshman year of high school in Latin I. We became friends within two weeks because we both shared an interest in sports and were quite competitive at our Tic-Tac-Toe “duals” before the bell rang. We went on to take Latin II and Latin III together, and our friendship continued to grow. Aidan’s kindness, sense of humor, and optimistic outlook are irreplaceable, and I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with the Aufderheide family, and I will always remember Aidan.  

Oh Angie and Keith I am just so sorry to hear about losing Aidan.  My heart is absolutely broken for you.  Please know you are surrounded by immense love.

Aidan’s Mom is my first cousin.  We live out of town and we were able to make a Thanksgiving celebration one year.  We have an only child and that time was a very girly girl.   After Thanksgiving lunch, she and Aidan and Eli went out and wrestled in the grass. Mind you, my daughter, Camille, was dressed in the frilliest girl
Outfit possible.   That didn’t matter. Aidan wrestle and played with her and she talked about this for weeks.   You made a difference in Camille’s life.  Will never be forgotten.  Rest In Peace, Aidan.

Myles and I are absolutely devastated. Aidan was an amazing, loving kid and he’ll be missed by everyone who ever knew him.💜 We love you, Aidan.

When I was a freshman, i was pushed down the stairs by some upperclassmen and adian helped me up and was super kind to me that whole year. Sometimes one person's care for another can make a huge difference and it did for me. My heart goes out to all of you and I am so so sorry and I wish I could fix this for yall. Thank you for your love Adian and rest in power.

There are no words. We were all heart broken  when we heard the news. The Auferheide family will be in our thoughts and prayers. 

I am so very sorry for your loss. Aidan was an amazing person who never failed to make me laugh, even on the days that laughing seemed impossible. I remember when we went to a skating rink, and he was so bad at skating that he admitted to dreading it later that day, but he still went and made sure we had fun no matter what. It hurts to know he’s no longer with us. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. 

Aidan and I used to be friends in elementary school. Finding out about this leaves my heart shattered. One thing I remember about Aidan is that he was never the talkative type (at least in school) he was usually the quiet kid when we had classes together. Whenever he was called on he would always speak quietly and thinking about it puts a smile on my face. I miss the friendship that he and I had in elementary school. And I wish we could've continued the friendship that we had.

I’m so very sorry for your loss, Aidan was like a brother to me. When we used to play football, all the jokes we cracked together made practice fly by, and he was one of the best friends i had on the team. I’m so sad we didn’t get to hang out more often, but honestly knowing him has made such a big difference in my life, he will be dearly missed. 

Aidan was truly a caring and fun-loving person that I got lucky to call a friend. I wish we were able to go on another adventure to see him happy and smiling again. I’ll never forget our trip to six flags where he would just laugh the whole time he rode the rollercoasters or when we would goof off at work together. I miss you, buddy. Rest in peace to a good soul and a true friend, you won’t be forgotten.

Aidan was a wonderful student. He was bright and diligent, but most of all, he loved a challenge. He was a joy to teach in fifth grade. I just knew he was destined for something great. My heart just broke with the news of his tragic passing. My only thought was this couldn’t be my Aidan. My thoughts and prayers are with his beautiful family! Know we are here for you. I met Aidan in my freshman year in 2018 and he quickly became one of the best friends and the best person i’ve ever know. He lit up every room and had the most amazing sense of humor especially with the silly nicknames he came up with. Im so glad I had to opportunity to be his friend all these years and I’ll miss him dearly. Rest easy bee<3

Aidan was a consistently great friend who constantly made others laugh and lit up the room with positive energy. From early elementary school days competing for academic awards, to joking around in AP Biology class freshman year of high school, and then more recently living in the same hall in college, he has always been a close part of my school life and I will always cherish the memories we have had together. Sending love from the Britt family, may he rest easy.

I used to work with Aiden and it was always such a blast, never a dull moment with him and me working window together. I'll never forget when we saw a funny looking dog and we couldn't stop laughing for 10 minutes. I may not have known him well but he's gonna be dearly missed by me, rest in peace bud :(

Intelligent, curious, athletic, driven, and like a brother to my own boys, you made an indelible mark on our family. We have so many sweet memories of summer spend-the-night-parties in Macon. Aiden was one of my first friends when coming to public school for the first time in 6th grade. My favorite memory of him was when he coined the term “brain break” in our AP calculus class junior year when a question would be to hard for us. I’m sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with your family 

Aidan was the best person who had ever walked into my life. he was my best friend, and easily the love of my life. he pushed me everyday to be a better person, he was so compassionate and loving. there were so many little things that he loved about life. My heart is broken with his passing. I will miss so deeply being greeted with his warm smile and arms wide open for a hug. He changed my life in so many ways by showing me how to be caring, loving, and forgiving. I will miss him forever. 

We are so sad to hear about Aidan. We lift you all up in prayers during this difficult time. Aidan was a wonderful young man that we always enjoyed having over to the house. 

Aidan was a great athlete and had grit. His sense of humor, intelligence, and wit is what made him who he is. You were great with my little man, he loved you so much. We all did. Rest in peace brother.
