Anna Joan Edwards, known by all as Joni, was a devoted mother and wife. She was born in Trenton, New Jersey. Her family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fl. where she grew up and graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School. Joni worked at her family owned dry cleaners. She held various jobs over the years which included an office manager at a pediatrician’s office, a title clerk, and a crossing guard; but her favorite job was being a homemaker. Joni raised five children; Sandy, Jeffrey, Stephanie, Snapper and Joey.
Joni had many talents which included painting, knitting and was an exceptional seamstress. Aside from sewing wedding gowns in a local boutique, she won many a Halloween costume contests with her amazing creativity. One year no one could beat the five of us dressed as the 101 Dalmatians; the boys with a blue collar and the girls with pink bows.
Joni eventually moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she met the love of her life at the A & P grocery store…Robert Bruce Edwards. They married Valentine’s Day 1985. Joni and Bruce welcomed many grandchildren; Melissa, Neill, Carter,Sven, Kenny, Emory, Timmy, Matt, Andy, Devon, Erin, Robert, Blake, Heather and Christin and doubly blessed with even more great grandchildren; Bradley, Brittany, Halyn, Brekken, Avery, Christian, William, Trinity, Aiden, Colton, Jacob and Philip.
Joni had a deep affection for animals. She adored her cats! Nothing made her happier than to look out her window and watch the birds flying in and out of the birdhouses and bathing in the bird baths.
The family joke was mom’s love of shopping. She could be down and out but would hear the word “shopping” and she would light up like a Christmas tree. She was very much a “Fashionista” and insisted on dressing to the nine’s and wearing high heels. In fact, upon visiting this week, Stephanie and I know we are definitely our mother’s daughters; we all have a true affinity for shoes and have been accused of being an Amelda Marcos! Nothing cracked us up more than to see mom walking down the hall with her walker in high heels!
There are too many stories to tell. Mom lives a happy and full life. We will miss you more than words could ever express. The Bible says in Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Joni’s desire was to have a happy and healthy family. God certainly looked down on her family and smiled. He most certainly has whispered in her ear, “well done, good and faithful servant.”
