

Audrey Johnson Mills, age 80, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 in Grayson, Georgia. She was also affectionately called “Mona Lisa” and “A.J.” by her family. Audrey was a native of Christiansburg, Virginia where she attended Christiansburg Institute, the first high school for Blacks in Southwest Virginia. She graduated at age 16. In 1956, she earned her undergraduate degree in Business Education at Virginia State College in Petersburg, VA at the age of 20. Upon graduating college, she began her career working as a secretary for District of Columbia local government. She was then employed by Federal Government and rose to the position of Analyst during a 37 year career which included serving in Paris and London. She also enjoyed a part-time career as a licensed real estate agent. Audrey and her husband/best friend, Robert M. Mills (Bobby) lived in Silver Spring, Maryland for over 20 years. In 1992, Audrey and Bobby moved to Hampton, VA to enjoy a warmer climate and more relaxed lifestyle while being near their daughter, Sabrina. She was an avid bingo player, but most of her hobbies included her beloved Bobby. They enjoyed fresh and saltwater fishing, cooking, studying finance and politics, as well as “flipping houses”. In her
senior years, Audrey enjoyed more than 25 years of retirement. Audrey was a born-again Christian and a private fundraiser and philanthropist for her favorite
causes which included the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the March of Dimes, and the Salvation Army. After Bobby’s passing, Sabrina and Audrey moved to Georgia in 2013. Audrey was blessed to be surrounded by the loving care of her daughter and a host of friends, which included Larry Ridley and Michelle Borders, for the remainder of her days. Preceding her in rest are her parents, Audrey Helms Johnson and Harry Johnson; brother, Harry Johnson; sister, Mary Elizabeth Johnson Brookins; and husband of 43 years, Robert M. Mills (Bobby). Surviving members of her family include her daughter, Sabrina L. Mills; Robert’s children: Irving F. Mills, Ione B. Armstrong and husband, Terry, Angelia B. Mills, and Deborah M. Mills; grandchildren: Monique Ervin and husband, Michael, and Vania Mays; several great grandchildren; brother, Roosevelt Johnson; and nieces, Janice Harrah, Kim Johnson, Sonji Johnson; nephews, Donnie Johnson, Timothy Johnson and great-nieces, Ronda Jones, Shanae Solomon and great-nephews, James Solomon, Tray Johnson and Timothy Johnson, Jr. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 22nd at 1:00 P.M., at Eternal Hills Funeral Home, Snellville, Georgia with Pastor Darrell J. Long presiding. A repast for family and close friends will immediately follow nearby. Memorial contributions may be made in her name
