

Carlton Garner, 76, of Atlanta, died Tuesday, September 2, 2013. He was born to the late Hobson and Bertha Collier Garner, Dec. 03, 1936, in Rogersville, Al. Carlton graduated from Lexington High School. He married Myra Ann Mackey in July 1956, and they lived together in Athens, Al., before relocating with their two sons to Atlanta in 1973. Carlton worked at the Redstone Arsenal, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Research Park, and Department of Defense in Huntsville, Alabama. After Congress abolished the Safeguard Logistics Program in the early 1970's, Carlton accepted a job with the Social Security Administration Regional Office in Atlanta, Georgia until retirement. He worked for The Home Depot for 10 yrs. before his 2nd retirement. Carlton was an active member of Campus Church of Christ. He loved southern gospel music, antique cars, working on engines, doing home repairs, gardening, his greenhouse and workshop. Carlton is survived by his wife Myra Mackey Garner of Anderson, Al., sons Randy of Grayson, Ga. and Barry of Roswell, Ga., grandchildren Corey Garner, Addie Garner Eckstein, Bailey Garner, Ben Garner, Bethany Garner, Courtney Garner, and Victoria Garner; great grandchildren Harrison and Millie Kate Garner; Sister Doris Ann Garner Wright, brother Dewey Garner, all of Rogersville, Al. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister Lois Ann Phillips Corum. In lieu of flowers, Carlton requested that donations be made to Georgia Agape. The family suggests a donation option of the Vasculitis Foundation or another charity of your choice in his name.
