Born on April 23, 1942 in Arpookara, Kottayam, Kerala, India to James and Elizabeth Thuruthumally. He was the 5th and youngest child of the family. He lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. He was a devout Catholic, and his trust in God was a guiding light throughout his life.
Emmanuel built his career using his Ph.D. in agronomy that he earned in Milan, Italy as a water pollution controller for Dekalb County keeping the water safe for all Dekalb Country residents to use. He was known for his hard work, focus on quality, and his gregarious personality.
Outside of his work, he found great joy in gatherings with friends and family. His life was a reflection of his love for his family, his generosity of spirit, and his unwavering faith. Emmanuel was one of the first Malayalee’s to immigrate from Kerala in 1974 and raised his family in Atlanta, GA. He was active in the Malayalee community throughout his life and took great pride being a Malayalee. He also took great pride in helping other Malayalee families who also immigrated to Atlanta, GA. He was active at St. Alphonsa church and served as the president of the church.
Emmanuel is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary, and 2 grown children — Biju (45) and his wife Resmi, and Tinu(48) and his wife Jessica, 7 grandchildren, Langston (18), Desmond (16), Everett (13), Annie (11), Anjali (10), Asher(8), Austin (2) and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Alphonsa Catholic Church located at 4561 Rosebud Road, Loganville GA 30052 on Friday, May 2 at 10:00am, with visitation beginning at 9:30am. Following the Mass, there will be a cemetery service at 12pm at Eternal Hills Funeral Home.
