

James Otto Baxley died Sunday, August 1st at the age of 79 in Decatur, Georgia. James was a Specialist 3rd Class in the United States Army. He served his country in the Korean War and was awarded 3 Purple Heart Medals. After retiring from the Army, he worked for 25 years at the Sophie Mae Candy Company in Midtown Atlanta. Subsequently, James volunteered with the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Atlanta for 19 years. He truly loved serviing the veterans who served our country the way he did. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Lori McDevitt and Thomas McDevitt, son and daughter-in-law, John Baxley and Allison Baxley, son, Keith Baxley, son, Lawrence Baxley and daughter, Laurie Amaral along with 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Visitation is planned for Thursday, August 5th from 2 to 4 pm and funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6th at 10:00 am at Eternal Hills Funeral Home, Chapel, 3594 Stone Mountain Hwy., Snellville, GA 30039, with Rev. Danny Odum officiating. Interment, will follow the funeral service at 2:00 pm at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
