Jo Ann Chronister Hinton, 93, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. She was known for being a woman of great faith and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Jo Ann was born in Valdosta, GA to the late Isla Mae and Wilbur Emory Chronister. She had a life-long love of children. Jo Ann taught preschool at Beecher Hills Baptist Church and then spent over 20 years in the Fulton County School System as an assistant in the special needs kindergarten class.
Jo Ann was a longtime member of Embry Hills United Methodist Church and spent many hours participating in groups and events at the church. She enjoyed traveling across the country with her husband, experiencing many national parks and visiting Disney World. She enjoyed journaling and researching family genealogy. Jo Ann’s greatest joy was her relationships with her grandchildren, as she attended every activity and milestone throughout their lives.
She is survived by her children, Robin (Shaun) O’Rear, Julie King and Tim (Steve) Hinton; grandchildren Brandon (Erin) O’Rear, Allison O’Rear, Emily (Austin) Lewis, Katie (Ryan) Nikitin, Adam King, Anna King and Joshua King; great-grandchildren, Fiona, Audrey, Iris, and Brooks and another great-grandson due in July, sister Lazelle Reagan and brother Emory Chronister and many nieces and nephews. Although she had Alzheimer’s during her last years, Jo Ann never lost her gentle spirit and was known until the end for her sweet smile. The family would like to thank all the caregivers who supported Jo Ann throughout the last phase of her journey--the staff of The Landing of Bogart and Agape Hospice Care, especially Brittnay, Lauren, Marcia and Kim.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Embry Hills United Methodist Church, 3304 Henderson Mill Rd., Atlanta, GA 30341.
