

After a brief illness Larry peacefully left this world on July 9, 2021. in Snellville, GA. He was born in Hiawatha, Kansas and grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He and his wife Deanna moved to Georgia from Santa Fe, New Mexico where they lived for over 26 years. They moved to Snellville, GA April 2020 to be near their grandson, Nicklaus Dean McQuillan, his wife Selina, great grandson Caydence Clay McQuillan of Stone Mountain, GA, and daughter-in-law, Courtney Tabb McQuillan Wall of Augusta, GA He was preceded in death by his mother and father John and Ethel McQuillan of Rapid City South Dakota and his two sons Larry Dean Jr. and Dana McQuillan.
Larry served in the US Army ASA at the pleasure of the Thai government in Bangkok, Thailand during the Laos / Viet Nam War. Larry met his wife Deanna in 1956 in Limestone Maine where their military
fathers were stationed. They were married July 21, 1962 in Youngstown, OH. In 1984 he moved to Hilton Head Island, SC where he managed and maintained over 250 short term vacation rental properties. It was there that he first became known as “MacGyver”. He could fix just about anything except carpentry. He and his wife started Hilton Head Island Accommodations and Golf Hotline, which is now owned by the Marriott Corp.
Larry was a railroad fireman/engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad which later became Conrail. They moved to Abiquiu in 1994 from Hilton Head SC and later to Santa Fe in 1996.
Larry worked for Santa Fe Trails from 2001 to 2006. In June 2001 he and Deanna opened their business, The Sewing Center of Santa Fe. Larry serviced and repaired sewing machines and Deanna gave machine lessons to the women who bought sewing machine at their store. They expanded their business on Cielo Court four times over the years.
During their Fifty-Nine year marriage they lived in Ohio, Hilton Head SC, Abiquiu, NM and made Santa Fe, NM their home in 1994. He love to travel and vacationed in Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Mexico.
Everyone who knew Larry would tell what a kind, gentle, loving man he was.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on September 9, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. in Santa Fe, NM. His wife Deanna and his Atlanta family will be in Santa Fe and would like you to join them at The Berardinelli McGee Life Event Center to share some of your favorite memories of Larry.
