

Leroy joined the military as a young 17 year old teen. He entered the U.S. Army in 1950 as a recruit (E-1); he was then sent to Korea for 18 months and returned to the United States in 1952 with an assortment of honored ribbons to include: The Korean War Ribbon, The National Defense Ribbon and The Korean Presidential Citation Ribbon. He was promoted to the Rank of Corporal (E-4). In 1953 he received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army after 3 years of service.
Leroy enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1956. He traveled through the countries of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Canada, Iceland and Newfoundland. He served 4 years in the Navy and was discharged in 1960 as an (E-59, 2nd class). He then joined the Naval Reserves as an E-6 (1st class) and became a Navy Seabee with the rank of CE1 (Construction Electrician 1). He retired in 1993 from the United States Naval Reserves receiving an honorable discharge at the age of 60.
Leroy believed in excelling in knowledge and education. He attended Western State College of Engineering and graduated in 1983, receiving a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an Electrical Draftsman at the Department of Water & Power Company in Los Angeles; He then moved on to become an Electrical Designing Engineer, working for Walt Disney and contributing to the construction and designing of Disney World in Florida. Further in his career, he worked at Westinghouse in North Carolina as an Electrical Engineer Fieldsman. He retired from Marta, in Atlanta, Georgia working as a Quality Control Engineer.
Leroy is survived by his wife Elsie Thompson, one child: Charles Alexander Thompson, step daughter, Emily Milligan, his former wife Necia Wright, four children: Grace Hendy, Jonathan Thompson, Lillian Thompson and Janet Vining; his grandchildren: Devon Hendy, Taylor and Trooper Vining, Kevin Thompson, Krista and Seth Milligan; as well as his many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and other friends.
Leroy Thompson will always be loved and remembered for his witty since of humor, his enthusiasm to always read and gain knowledge and understanding; For his eagerness to always strive to be the best in anything, and everything no matter how small or how big the challenge.
Although Leroy has moved on from this earth, he will forever be in each and every one of our hearts.
