
Mae Phillips Britt
May 5, 1920 - February 8, 2014
Mae Phillips Britt of Snellville, GA passed away at home on February 8, 2013. She was 93
years old and surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of
fifty-five years, O. H. Britt and her daughter, Patricia Britt Bennett, a great granddaughter,
Grace Ann Britt, parents, William B. and Lillie Phillips and four brothers. She has been
living with her daughter, Joyce Harrison for the past 12 years moving there from 2418
Scenic Hwy., Snellville where she had lived for 46 years.
Mrs. Britt was a lifelong resident of Gwinnett County and was cafeteria manager for South
Gwinnett High School for twenty years having worked for Mr. Knight, Mr. Head and Mr.
Smallwood. “Miss” Mae, as she was so fondly called loved all the kids in High School and
they all loved her. She was a charter member of Westside Baptist Church and taught
preschoolers there and at Snellville First Baptist Church. She enjoyed being a member of
the Georgia Pace Setters Club and had traveled extensively through the years with family
and friends, including travel to all 50 states.
She is survived by her son, W.H. Britt and his wife Paulette of Loganville; daughter, Joyce
Britt Harrison and her husband, Gary of Snellville; three grandsons: Stacey Britt (Melanie)
of Hartwell, Darron Britt (Angie) of Bogart, Michael Britt Smith of Flowery Branch; four
granddaughters: Michelle Smith Hood (Greg) of Loganville, DeAnna Britt Williams (Mike)
of Suwanee, Kimberly Fulton of Columbia, SC, Kristie Bennett Vest of Lexington, SC; 9
great grandchildren: Abraham Britt, Fallin Britt, Patrick Britt, Garrison Britt, Macy Williams,
Esther Williams, Paige Hood, Paden Hood, and Cole Vest, and sisters-in-law: Lucy
Phillips, Edna Richardson, Sophie Britt, and Marion Britt. The family would like to extend
their sincere appreciation to Mrs. Britt’s caregivers: Maria Carias, Delrose Johnson, Tricia
Rawlins, Eunice Rickard, and Pat Wilkerson. The family would also like to acknowledge
and thank the staff at Homestead Hospice and Palliative Care in Roswell, GA.
A Funeral Service to Honor her Life will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 1PM at
Westside Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Hightower and Rev. Ben Lehmann officiating.
Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends
Monday, February 10, 2014 from 2PM to 6PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to Westside Baptist Church, 2925 Main Street W.,
Snellville, GA 30078.
