Melvin Lee Crook, 80, passed peacefully in his sleep at home, one his favorite places to be, on April 26, 2023. He now is in his heavenly home with Jesus and reunited with his beloved parents Johnny and Elsie Crook, as well as his brother James "Butch" Crook.
Melvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Melvin served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve for six years with two of them being stationed in Korea. He was a proud military veteran and always spoke highly of his time in the service, especially with fond memories of driving his tank. After leaving the Army, he devoted himself to his family. He actively coached his sons’ baseball, basketball, and soccer teams for many years. He loved playing golf with his kids and grandkids and enjoyed playing in senior tournaments after retirement. His love for his family was immeasurable, as he was always sure to acknowledge everyone with an arm around their shoulder to ask how they were doing and even affectionately had nicknames for all of his grandkids. Melvin was a member of Highlands Presbyterian Church.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Crook, who was his partner for over 57 years. He was a dedicated father to his two sons, Scott Crook (wife Candy) and Dwayne Crook (wife Kristi). Melvin was a proud grandfather to Amber Palmer (Sweetie), Christopher Crook (Turkey), Joshua Crook (Boo), Jordan Crook (The Judge), Tatiana Crook (Twinkle Toes), Caitlyn Crook (Lady Bug), and Alexis Grant (Tinker Bell) and proud great-grandfather to nine adoring great-grandchildren.
Melvin's family will receive visitors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 28th, 2023 and from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, on Saturday, April 29th at the Horace A Ward Fairview Chapel at 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, GA. A celebration of life service will follow on Saturday, April 29th at 11:00 am.
Honorary pallbearers include Christopher Crook, Joshua Crook, Jordan Crook, Matt Palmer, Shawn Morris and Lee Morris.
Melvin was a kind, humble, and loving man who touched the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Melvin’s honor to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
