Virginia was a Sgt, in the United States Marine Corps. She served her country proudly. Until the day she passed away she always reminded her family “Once a marine, always a marine, who fights to the end”. And that she did with honor and dignity. She was an expert markswoman for the Marine Corps riffle team, where she received medals. She always played on the corps softball team, where they won several championships. She also worked for NASA, got to fly in a fighter jet.
She married the love of her life Arthur Eugene Ashcraft, also, a proud Marine, on December 27th 1957 in Moline IL. and from there moved to San Diego California. Virginia began working as a civil servant at the exchange and later as an accounting supervisor at MCRD until her retirement July 1, 1990. They raised 3 amazing daughters and grew the family of 5 into now a strong family of 38. Plus many bonus kids from the Corps whom she was a second mom to.
Gigi was the name she was given by her great grands who love her dearly. She loved to travel, put puzzles together, read, listened to music and illegally burned music! She was able to travel for the last time to Hawaii this past October, where she flew in a helicopter around the entire Big Island, off roading in the volcano lava fields of Kona, was a special guest at a luau and was loved by all.
Virginia will always be remembered as the kind hearted, loving, caring, peacemaker, who always looked out for those who needed a loving hug.
We want to give thanks to our extended family Adisa (Grace), Victoria (Angel), Evelyn (Hope), YoYo (Love), Pastor Alex (shared Joy), Kelly and Courtney from Longleaf Hospice Covington team, who loved Virginia like family. They took amazing care of her and she loved each of them like her own.
