In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 27th, 2022, Wilfredo Roberto Osaba, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend went to be with the Lord at the age of 82. Roberto was born on October 12th, 1939 in Pinar del Rio, Cuba to Amparo Azcuy Osaba and Nestor Osaba, the third oldest of ten children. The family lived on a peaceful small farm in the country, La Paloma, and their home was filled with love.
At the age of nineteen, he moved to Havana and began attending the University of Havana where he earned an accounting degree while working at a local grocery store. A few years later, Roberto met the love of his life, Loida Perdomo. After a beautiful courtship, they married in October of 1965.
By then, the political climate on the island had become oppressive under communist rule so they began applying for visas to exit the country and leave for the United States. They were granted visas to Madrid, Spain instead and in May of 1967, at twenty-seven years old, Roberto, his wife and baby daughter, Maday, escaped communism with nothing but a few personal possessions in their pursuit of freedom.
They lived and worked in Madrid for nine months while waiting for their visas to enter the United States as legal residents. In January of 1968, they were granted their visas and arrived in Atlanta, Georgia to begin their new lives and pursue the American Dream.
Roberto worked several jobs before opening his own business in 1970, European Specialists of Atlanta, in Decatur, Georgia. He grew the successful automotive service center for thirty-seven years before retiring in 2007. He earned many awards and recognitions, including “Business of the Year” in 1993, awarded by the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Roberto and Loida enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world. Some of their favorite countries were Argentina, France, Italy, Canada, and Sweden. His love of God, family, community and his beloved United States of America was evident in all he did. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, and was something he loved to share with anyone he engaged in conversation. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched through his family, church, business and community.
Roberto is survived by his wife, Loida Esperanza Osaba of Cumming, Georgia; his children: Maday Pimentel, Suzette Bryan and Roberto Osaba (Mary Emily), all of Atlanta, Georgia; his grandchildren: Lindsey Pimentel of Indianapolis, Indiana; Savannah (Chad) Conner, Sophia Bryan, Noah Osaba, Miles Osaba, Max Osaba and Bennett Osaba, all of Atlanta, Georgia; his sister-in-law, Miriam Perdomo of Cumming, Georgia; his brother-in-law, Roberto Uriel of Miami, Florida; his nieces Amarilys Barnett (Rhett) of Pelham, Alabama; Miriam Green (Kevin) of Orange Beach, Alabama; Lyssette Woodtke (John) of Cumming, Georgia; Jaclyn Gallardo (Ovi) and Deborah Nunez (Christian) of Miami, Florida; his nephew DJ Uriel of Miami, Florida; and eight great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ileana Uriel of Miami, Florida; his mother-in-law, Zoila Perdomo of Atlanta, Georgia; and his brother-in-law, Onelio Perdomo of Cumming, Georgia.
