Yvonne, was actually born Gwendolyn Yvonne Kem and was known as Yvonne or “Vonnie” by friends. She grew up on a farm in southern Missouri. She received her degree in nursing from Baptist Memorial Hospital of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee. Shortly afterwards she met her husband Ernest Gene Wade, on a blind date. He knew she was his good thing immediately. They recently celebrated 52
½ years of marriage.
Yvonne loved traveling, cross-stitch, and tending her flower garden. She was an avid bird watcher and delighted in spending time with her family and friends. She loved the Lord and was a member of Highlands Presbyterian Church, in Grayson, GA. Those who knew her well will remember her for her kindness, love of friendship, ferocious loyalty, and spunk. As Shakespeare says, “Though she be but little, she is fierce!”
She was preceded in death by her father Archie Lynn Kem, her mother Ruby Alice Kem, and her sister Alice Lynn Kem.
Yvonne is survived by many who love her: her loving and beloved husband Ernest Gene Wade, a son Philip Kevin Wade and daughter-in-law Kelly, daughter Valerie Wade Blaisdell and son-in- law Tom, and 5 grandchildren, the apples of her eye: Daniel, Justin, Anna, Megan, and Nicole.
The family will receive friends on the evening of Sunday, March 1st from 5pm to 7pm at Eternal Hills Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Monday, March 2nd at 12 o'clock in the afternoon in the Chapel of Eternal Hills Funeral Home, 3594 Stone Mountain Hwy, Snellville, GA 30039.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (jdrf.org) in the hope that a cure can be found for her granddaughter; and or to the Highlands Presbyterian Church “Soup Nite” ministry which serves hot meals to families in the community going through difficult times. (Checks can be made payable to Highlands Presbyterian Church -- designate “Soup Nite” in the memo field -- and mailed to Highlands Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 847, Grayson, GA 30017.)
