

Caroline (Gondelli) Smedick, 101 years of age, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 27. Caroline was born on June 30, 1915 to Azzo Gondelli and Euphemia (Tognini) Gondelli, and resided in Canaan, CT for the greater portion of her life. Caroline attended Canaan Elementary School and was a member of the 1933 class of Canaan High School. She was married for 67 years to Earle E. Smedick, who passed away in 2000.
Caroline was preceded in death by her siblings, Rose Lemoine, Elizabeth Tatsapaugh, Susan Parachini and Arthur Gondelli.
Caroline is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Sechrist, of West Hartford, Mary Ellen Beauchemin, of Southington and Nancy Via of Prospect. She is also survived by her son-in-law Norbert Beauchemin and her step-daughter, Shirley Leonard, of Torrington. Caroline leaves behind her grandchildren and their spouses: Nicole Visconti (David), Dana Nastri (David), Jeanne Kraut (Kevin), Stephen Beauchemin, Jan Localio (William), and Gregory Via and their children: Michael, Kevin, Lauren, Tucker, Beau, Sean, Kyle, Elliott and Ross, and her great, great grandchildren, Derek and Charlotte. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children as well as devoted friends in the Canaan, CT and Nokomis, Florida communities.
Caroline was an active member in the Canaan community. She was the co-owner of Roger's Shoe Store, a member of the board of the Canaan National Bank, Regeant and founding member of the Daughters' of Isabella, officer in the CT Railroad Association) and group leader in the Canaan 4-H organization, and President of the American Legion Auxiliary.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 4 Main St., Canaan, on Friday Dec. 2 at 11:30 am. Immediately following the Mass, Caroline will be buried in St. Joseph Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, Caroline's daughters suggest that a donation be made in Caroline's name to the charity of ones choice.
