
Born in Bruck, Germany on February 3, 1910, Ed emigrated to the United States in 1929. He initially settled in New York City and later moved to Plainville. After the United States entry into WWII he enlisted into the US Army in 1942. He served in the 3rd Army Division nicknamed "Hell On Wheels" and saw extensive combat throughout the European theatre of operations including the Battle of the Bulge. His unit was one of the first American units into Berlin after that city fell to the Allied Forces. He returned to his home in Plainville and his job at North and Judd MFG. In New Britain after being mustered out in 1946. He retired from North and Judd in 1972. He had also been a member of the VFW Post 574 in Plainville.
He is survived by his daughter Betsy Silvestri of Southington, a son Hank Roehnert and his wife Joy of NJ., grandchildren Chris,Stephanie and Alex Silvestri and Nick Roehnert along with several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers Mike, George and Joseph Reisinger,
sisters Catherine Gabes and Barbara Ullman and his son in law Gary Silvestri. Ed will be remembered by his family and friends as a fun loving, generous person who loved working in his garden.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday April 29 at 11 AM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. in Southington. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Plainville with military honors. Calling hours will be on Monday from 5-8 . Donations may be made in his memory to VFW Post 574, Northwest Dr. Plainville, CT.
