

Born April 19, 1934 in Keegan, ME, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Rose (Ouellette) Martin and grew up on the family farm in Madawaska, ME.
Gerard was a Veteran of the Korean War proudly serving with the U.S. Army. He worked in many factories in New Britain including Fafnir Bearing Co., he proudly owned a Mobil gas station and garage in New Britain and later worked as a Diesel Mechanic. After retirement he filled his time as a handyman, as well as fixing up his own home. He enjoyed antiquing and going to auctions, August vacations in Vermont and Sunday dinners with family. He had a love of horses, music, cribbage, and a passion for wearing hats.
He is survived by his two children, Alan Martin of Plainville and Deborah Walsh and son-in-law Joseph of Guilford; former wife and friend Laura Martin of Southington; three grandchildren, Christopher Martin of Canton, CT., Caroline Walsh and Sarah Walsh of Guilford, CT., brother Armand Martin and sister Fernande Dube both of Madawaska, ME. Gerard also leaves his partner of 36 years Janet Judd of Southington and his grand dog/Sunday dinner buddy, Molly. He was lovingly known as Oncle Gerard/Uncle Jerry to his many nieces and nephews whom he adored.
He was predeceased by his grandson Joseph Martin Walsh; three brothers, Fernand, Richard and Norman Martin, three sisters, Therese Cyr, Carmen Ouellette and Claire Pelletier.
He was a friend of Bill W. where he formed many meaningful relationships.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 6th at 8:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington for a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Britain.
