

James was born on August 24, 1922 in Meriden, and was the son of the late Frederick K. and Annie (Hoyland) Hecht.
James served in the US Navy during WWII serving in the South Pacific, on the USS Leon. He was the owner of Hecht’s Service Station in Cheshire for 38 years. He was a member of the Meriden Turner Society. His love for music and dancing was surpassed only by his love for his family. James could be seen on many occasions at the Plainville Senior Center, a place where he enjoyed, listening to music, dancing and singing.
James is survived by his four children James R. Hecht and his wife Lori Ann of Durham, Kevin J. Hecht and his wife Kim, Holly H. Bouchard and her husband Michael and Kari H. Robarge and her husband Gary all of Southington.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren Rebecca B. Colli, Kristen M.Gardiner, Karl W. Hecht, Jae Lyn Hecht, James F. Bouchard-Galvin, Joseph R. Bouchard, Thomas J. Hecht, Kendall J. Hecht, Alisha A. Robarge and Marissa M. Robarge, great-grandchildren Lily Gardiner, Gabriel Gardiner, Austin Colli, Morgan Colli, Kailey Holland, Benjamin Hecht and Allison Hecht. James is also survived by his brother John F. Hecht of Cheshire a niece and God-daughter Jean Martin of Cheshire and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Frederick C. Hecht. The family would like to thank Dr. Craig Bogdanski and the staff of the Fresenius Center for all of the care and compassion given to James while he was in their care.
The Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 17 at 11 am at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Southington. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either Southington Band Backers, PO Box 114, Plantsville, CT 06479, the Salvation Army 23 St. Casmir Dr. Meriden, CT 06450 or the Shriners Hospital for Children 51 Blossom St. Boston, MA 02114.
