

Born December 3, 1942 in Hartford, Connecticut, he was the son of the late John Edward and Lena (LePore Dutton) Markstein. He is also predeceased by his step-father, Anthony Markstein.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Patricia Queen and her husband, William Queen Jr. of Southington, CT, David Dutton and his wife, Pene Dutton of Melbourne, FL, Nicole Disken and her husband, Tony Disken of Florence, KY and stepdaughter, Beth Ward of Lexington, KY. He also leaves his grandchildren, William Queen III, Katrina Dutton, Alexander Queen, Tyler Disken and Samantha Disken.
He is survived by his sister, Judith Flynn and her husband Daniel Flynn, and nieces Lisa Graves, Laurie Kablik, Leanne Hollister and nephew, Robert Kablik and their families. He also leaves his aunt, Sylvia Fresello of Wethersfield, CT and uncle, Frank LePore of Philadelphia, PA, as well as many cousins. He is also predeceased by aunts and uncles who were an important part of his life.
John was a proud marine and served on active duty for six years. Self-educated, he became an accomplished business executive and retired as Marketing and Sales Director for Parker Hannifin.
He practiced and loved the teachings and spirituality of Tai Chi as part of his ongoing interest in religions. He was an avid reader. He walked and exercised daily. He enjoyed travel. He embraced new learning throughout his life. Gregarious, he loved to tell jokes and funny stories. He opened his heart and mind to everything and everyone.
On Saturday, April 7th, at the First Congregational Church of Southington, 37 Main Street, Southington, CT, there will be a calling hour from 1 to 2pm, immediately followed by a funeral service.
