

WATERBURY – Leonard J. Morelli, a World War II veteran and Waterbury native, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019. He was 94. Lenny was the devoted husband of Bertha (Beausoleil) Morelli for 65 years, and seems to have decided to follow her into the next life after her passing three weeks ago. Lenny was born in Waterbury on March 18, 1924, to Alphonse and Catalina Morelli.
Lenny served in the United States Army in Germany, northern Africa and the Middle East during World War II in the 685th Ordnance Ammunition Company. He was honorably discharged as a private first class in January 1946. He worked for Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) as a meter reader in his community, retiring after 37 years of service. Lenny enjoyed life, practicing painting and woodworking in his spare time, and visiting with numerous family and friends throughout the city of Waterbury.
Lenny is survived by his son, Leonard A. Morelli and his wife Nancy of Cheshire, several nieces and nephews including Ralph Morelli and his wife Choong (How) of Wethersfield, Karen Morelli and her husband John “Max” Maxwell of Chester, Diane McBroom and Tom of San Jose, CA, Kathleen Hoyt and her husband Larry of Florida, Barbara Sindelar, Judy Desrosiers and her husband Lucien of RI, as well as great-nephews Mark and Steven Malaspina. In addition, he also leaves behind grandchildren Joseph and Kathleen Morelli.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 690 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott. Funeral is Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Pius X Church, 525 Woodtick Rd., Wolcott for Mass at 10.
