Maria Guerrera

Maria (Addona) Guerrera passed away at home on Sunday, October 9, 2022. Maria was greeted at the gates of heaven by her loved ones that passed previously - her husband, Nicola Guerrera, her parents, Angela and Antonio Addona, her sister, Victoria Longo, and her brothers, Mario, Carmen and Thomas.

Maria adored her family. She was the beloved mother of Philomena Johnson (husband Michael) of Plantsville, CT and Antonietta Guerrera of Southington, CT. She was the proud grandmother of Lisa Johnson of New York, NY and Tina Hughes (husband Jason) of Haddam, CT. She treasured her great-grandsons, Nathan and Zachary Hughes.

Maria lived an eventful life, born in Pontelandolfo, Benevento, Italy in 1924 to Angela and Antonio Addona. She came of age with others of her generation in war-torn Italy and was heartened by the safe return of her future husband, Nicola, at its conclusion.

In 1954, Maria's young family immigrated to Montreal with the expectation of continuing on to Connecticut. The family arrived in Southington in 1960, reuniting with family from Italy that preceded them.

She loved family gatherings, especially during the holidays, showering those around her with food, gifts and much love. Her family enjoyed her outstanding Italian cuisine and sharing her traditions. Maria also had a passion for her huge garden that annually produced an abundance of vegetable crops, particularly different varieties of tomatoes.

Maria will be missed by all those she knew and loved. Maria was a long time parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
