Born on March 4, 1953, in Waterbury, CT, Betsy was the daughter of the late Francis Philip Sacco and Lillian Martha Adams. A proud and fiercely independent spirit, she ventured West to California right after high school and went on to live in Seattle, Guam, Delaware, and Florida before eventually returning to her home state of Connecticut.
Betsy was truly one of a kind—known for her quick wit, sarcastic humor, and deeply creative soul. Whether telling stories that made you laugh until you cried, tending to her garden with care, or simply being present in her uniquely luminous way, she left a lasting impression on everyone she met. To quote a dear friend, “She is a one-of-a-kind luminous human.”
A comedian at heart and a storyteller by nature, Betsy never hesitated to bring levity to even the most difficult moments. Her humor was sharp, her presence comforting, and her kindness unwavering.
Betsy is survived by her loving sisters, Janis Sacco-MacDonald of Plantsville and Christine Roy of Essex; her nieces and nephews, Ian MacDonald and his wife Emily and their sons Elliott and Owen, Amy Roy, Bryan Roy, and Lisa Cramer and her children Daxton and Logan. She also leaves behind her cherished lifelong friend and chosen “sister,” Ginny Sehnal Hanson. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Philip Sacco.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, Civita Care Center at Cheshire, and Beacon Hospice Care for the dignity and care shown to Betsy during her illness.
In keeping with her wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
Betsy lived life on her own terms—always authentic, always unforgettable—and her legacy will continue in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the gardens grown by those who knew and loved her.
