He leaves behind his beloved sons Ethan and Eli of Southington, who both cherished their Dad, his parents Vincent and Isabelle Culotta of Beacon Falls, and his brother Jon and Jon’s family. Mark also leaves behind Ethan and Eli’s Mom, Sue Culotta and her family as well as his lifelong best friend Mike Van Horn of Virginia.
Mark was born in Derby, CT on January 17, 1967 (a birthday he shared with son Eli). He grew up in Seymour and attended Seymour High School graduating in 1985. He then continued his education at Waterbury State Technical College (earning an AS in Mechanical Engineering) and then getting his Bachelors in Science with a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Haven.
Mark went on to have a career in Quality Control, Assurance and Engineering working at a number of top companies including ITW Highland, Del-Tron Precision and CUNO. Around this time he moved to Southington, a town that he was proud to call home.
Mark grew up playing a number of sports including baseball where he excelled and that was start of a long exciting career. One early highlight was playing in the Seymour Babe Ruth League where he was coached by his Dad which was one of many great bonding moments between them. The love of baseball grew into playing high level competitive softball where he was a key member of many championship teams and traveled throughout the country for tournaments.
Other big loves of Mark were his unwavering loyalty to the Boston Red Sox and Miami Dolphins. Many around town knew whose license plate was 72PHINS. This love of all things Red Sox and Dolphins was a passion that he was able to pass along to both Ethan and Eli and they all thoroughly enjoyed sharing many games both in person and on TV.
Which leads to the greatest loves of Mark’s life: His boys. Mark was the pure definition of “Great Dad”. He loved everything about being a Dad and did everything possible to express that love. One of the areas that he got very involved in was coaching. Mark dove right in to become a coach on many of the boys’ teams - whether it was baseball, basketball or the main sport of the family - football. Seeing Mark being on the sidelines coaching his sons or just being in the stands were always “extremely proud” moments for him. Even in the last few years as Mark battled some health challenges, the things that got him through were the times he was watching his boys play or enjoying football or Red Sox games together. Those were times he cherished and made him smile.
Mark was loved dearly and his smile will be forever missed.
Calling hours for Mark will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. The family asks that flowers be omitted. For online condolences and directions please visit, www.dellavecchiasouthington.com
