It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Paul Muth, who passed away on February 18, 2025, at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden after a lengthy illness. Richard was born on September 26, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Raymond and Pearl (Little) Muth. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Richard was the beloved husband of Emma K. (DelBuono) Muth, with whom he shared a life filled with love and laughter since their marriage in 1965. Together, they raised a family that was the pride of his life. He was the cherished father of Ginnyann Campbell and Richard B. Muth, and a doting grandfather to Tyler, Jacob, and Michayla Campbell, as well as Ethan and Cody Muth, and his great-grandchildren, Waylon and Kaylee Muth. He also leaves many nieces and nephews whom he created fond memories with.
A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, Richard served aboard the USS Des Moines and carried a deep sense of duty to his country. He was an active member of the community and dedicated much of his time to others. He was a past President of the Lions Club International local chapter and also volunteered for the United Way, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Richard’s love for his family was unmatched. As an avid collector of Lionel Trains, he enjoyed sharing his passion with his loved ones. He was always present at his grandchildren’s events, concerts, and sporting games, never missing an opportunity to show his support. Richard could always be found waving his white handkerchief to signal his presence, a simple gesture that brought comfort and warmth to those around him.
When his children were young, Richard took them to Hubbard Park every Sunday to feed the ducks—a tradition that exemplified his commitment to creating lasting memories with those he loved. He also loved playing games with family, teaching his children and grandchildren how to play Chess, getting all of them to play a game of Dice or the nightly game of Rummikub, a game he and Emma played every night after dinner. He was the proclaimed family Rummikub Champion.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Emma, daughter Ginnyann Campbell, son Richard B. Muth, brother Robert Muth and his wife Virginia, his five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters Joan Esswein and Jeanne Muth.
