Robert David Crandall Jr. (Bob), 75, of Southington, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted and loving husband of Lena (Longo) Crandall, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Their life together was built on deep love, loyalty, and partnership, and she remained the center of his world.
Born December 30, 1949, in Hartford, Bob was the son of the late Robert David Crandall Sr. and Marguerite (DelGiudice) Crandall.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a radioman during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at the Groton Submarine Base and served aboard the U.S.S. Thomas Jefferson and the U.S.S. Andrew Jackson for four years. In recognition of his service, he received six military medals. Following his military service, Bob was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft from 1986 until his retirement in 2001 as a jet engine mechanic.
Bob was a longtime parishioner of the former St. Thomas Church until its closing, a member of the Southington Knights of Columbus, Isabella Council 15, and a volunteer fireman with Southington Company 1 for several years. He also spent countless hours researching and preserving his family genealogy, as honoring his family’s history and passing those stories on to future generations was deeply important to him.
Bob found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He especially enjoyed sitting on his front porch chatting with neighbors, watching the world go by, and admiring his well-manicured yard and beautiful flowers, which he took great pride in tending. These moments reflected his appreciation for community, home, and the life he built with his family.
Above all else, Bob was a family man. He was a proud and loving father to his children and a devoted grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he found his greatest happiness in time shared together through stories, laughter, and quiet moments.
In addition to his beloved wife Lena, Bob leaves his two children, Robert Crandall III of Honolulu, HI, and Lisa Dyer and her husband Thomas of North Haven; five grandchildren, Alexander and Isabella Crandall, Riley and Thomas Dyer, and Derek Touhey, who were the light of his life; a brother, William J. Crandall and his wife Donna; and two sisters, Judy Bruni and Francesca Crandall. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and extended family members. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.
A visitation for Bob will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 4–7 PM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Inurnment with Military Honors will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10 AM at the CT State Veterans Cemetery Columbarium, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT.
