

Born Dec. 31, 1929 in Southington he was the son of Jean (Pernal) Hopko of Southington and the late Stephen Hopko. Bob was a lifelong resident of Southington and also enjoyed spending time with his family in Largo, Florida and Westerly, Rhode Island. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Southington.
He was employed for 40 years by Finast Super Markets in the meat department as a Manager. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Army as Chief Dispensary technician and was awarded a medal for good conduct and service. He was a volunteer fireman for 25 years, serving as Past Captain of Marion Fire Department, Company 4. He also served on the Southington Planning and Zoning Commission and was a Falcon Member for 50 years. He was proud to be a member of Southington?s ?Scarpa Schoda? Group. Bob lived his life for his family, always putting their needs ahead of his own.
Besides, Lauretta, the love of his life and wife of 58 years, he leaves his mother, Jean Hopko. He leaves a son, Dr. Robert S. Hopko, Jr. and his wife, Gwynne, a daughter, Suzanne H. Naples and her husband Jeffrey and a daughter, Kathleen M. Hopko, all of Southington; six cherished grandchildren: Andrew, Philip and Emily Hopko and Kristin, Kaitlyn and Jennifer Naples; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and George Lovesky of Rhode Island and a sister-in-law, Gennie Malinowski of New Britain and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to Immaculate Conception Church, 130 Summer St., Plantsville for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the St Jude Children?s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
