Ruth Ann Mary (Michaud) Doucette, 73, of Bristol, widow of the late Michael Doucette, passed away on Friday evening, June 23, 2023, at UConn Medical Center after a brief illness. Ruth was born on February 15, 1950, in Van Buren, ME, and was the daughter of the late Fernand and Bertille (Bougoin) Michaud. Ruth concluded a distinguished career as a highly respected office engineer, her final professional chapter being at Gannett Fleming, Inc., where she retired, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional service and professional excellence. The odds are that if you have traveled in Connecticut, you traveled on a road or crossed a bridge she helped build. Her retirement was as vibrant as her career, where she relished the simple joys of life. Ruth found delight in assembling puzzles, an exercise that tickled her mind and spirit. She was an ardent admirer of nature, dedicating time to watching and feeding the birds, especially cardinals which had a special meaning for her, and nurturing this passion with the same dedication and love she showed in all her pursuits. With an innate zest for life and a vivacious spirit, Ruth would often be spotted in the company of dear friends, gleefully embarking on their weekly gastronomic adventures. They loved exploring cherished eateries, these outings becoming beloved rituals that offered more than just food but also the sweetness of shared experiences. Ruth's legacy goes far beyond her hobbies and affections. At the heart of her life's story was an immense love and passion for her family. A dedicated mother, she poured endless hours into ensuring the happiness and well-being of her children and grandchildren, nurturing them with the same resilience and determination that characterized every aspect of her life. Her household was one of warmth and laughter, with an open-door policy that welcomed family, friends, and neighbors. Her children were not only the joy of her life but also her greatest accomplishment. Her loyalty to her friends was also an emblematic part of who she was. She believed in the strength of these bonds, holding her friendships in the highest esteem. Friends who had the privilege of knowing her understood that her loyalty was unwavering, her commitment unflinching, and her generosity limitless. She was a radiant beacon of compassion and selflessness, always extending her hand to those in need, a gentle soul who instinctively prioritized the well-being of others above her own. Her relationships were built on a bedrock of trust and respect, making her a friend that many were blessed to have. These qualities were the hallmarks of a life lived with great love, empathy, and selflessness. As we remember her, we honor the legacy of love and friendship that she leaves behind; Ruth is survived by her former husband, Brian Carey, and their two sons; Peter Carey and his wife Dawn of Southington; Christopher Carey and his wife Gretchen of Burlington, MA. She was a loving Memere to Shannon Carey of Danvers, MA, and Evan and Cassandra Carey, both of Southington. She is also survived by her brother, Carl Michaud, and his wife, Debbie of Unionville, and her three sisters, Charlene Michaud of Bangor, ME, Donna Michaud of FT. Pierce, FL and Paula Lawrence and her husband Dana of Bangor, ME and by her niece, Mindy Joffre of Virginia.
