Theresa Elsie Buchanan, 61, of the Plantsville section of Southington, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She fought hard with the help of family, close neighbors, and the wonderful providers at Midstate Medical Center.
Born on October 12, 1963, in Meriden, Theresa was the daughter of the late Nancy C. Buchanan. Theresa was known for her deep commitment to her work as the Human Resource Director at MidState Arc in Meriden. She was also a professor at Post University in Waterbury. She had a passion for reading and was a world traveler. She could never pass a museum gift shop without purchasing several more books even if it meant having to ship them home.
Theresa leaves behind her beloved daughter, Erin M. Aiello of Hadley, MA. She is also survived by two brothers, Kevin Gregoire and his wife Josephine of Wethersfield, and Shawn Gregoire and his wife Ginger of Surfside Beach, SC. Theresa was proud to be an “Auntie” to her nieces and nephews and loved them fiercely. She was happy to show her love with sage advice or a well-timed trip to the outlets. She was also known as “Auntie Books” to her great nephews and great niece because they were convinced she must be a librarian.
Theresa was predeceased by her former husband, Donald Aiello, and his parents, Ralph and Dollie Aiello.
A funeral service in her memory will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 145 Main St., Southington. Burial will follow at West Cemetery in Plainville. Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 5-8 p.m. at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Karen Wellington Foundation at www.karenwellingtonfoundation.org, an organization that Theresa supported in honor of those living despite cancer.
