Betty was born May 22, 1930, in Kenora, Ontario, the only daughter of Edith (Greenwood) and John (Jock) Bennett. She passed peacefully with family and friends at her side May 5, 2025.
Betty moved five times to different small Canadian towns in her younger years due to her father’s job as locomotive foreman at the Canadian Pacific Railway. Her family eventually settled in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where she was able to complete all of her high school years. In her youth she spent memorable summers in both Banff and Lake Louise - the spoils of being a “Railway Brat”.
Betty attended University of Toronto, Faculty of Dental Nursing, class of 1950. She made lifelong friends at U of T who stayed in touch with each other all the way into 2010’s. Many of her friends she made after making permanent roots in Toronto stemmed from her university days. On March 3, 1956, she married John (Jack) Carmen Stacey and had a long and happy marriage of 65 years, until his passing in June of 2020.
She was interested in crafting, gardening, and antiquing. Before thrifting was a “thing” Betty would find unique pieces at the used items stores of her generation and bring them back to life, stripping paint and polishing brass. She volunteered making Christmas crafts at Sick Kids Hospital and also canvassed for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Her annual lunches with her dental nurse cronies always included a craft for each of them at their table.
Betty and Jack lived in the Don Mills community, a suburb of Toronto, for 50 years where they raised their son, Scott. They remained in Don Mills after retirement, selling their house and moving to a condominium
until 2017. They then moved to St. Catharines, Ontario to be closer to their family in their elderly years.
Betty will be sorely missed by her son Scott, daughter-in-law Lisa Linders and granddaughter Tennyson (Tenny) Linders. She will also be missed and remembered by cousins Leslie (Roberts) and Mike McGeough, Brent and Debbie Roberts and Craig Roberts.
As per Betty’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. She will be cremated and her remains will be interred beside her husband, Jack, at Mt. Pleasant cemetery in Toronto.
The Stacey/Linders family would like to thank the tireless and compassionate efforts of the care staff at Linhaven Long Term Care in St Catharines. The final four years of Betty’s life were filled with love and joy within the Linhaven community.
In lieu of flowers donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Hospital for Sick Children.
