

McKinnon, Dorothy Leone Dorothy died peacefully, surrounded by her adoring family, on February 24, 2013 at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener, after having succumbed to pneumonia. She was 93.Dorothy was born in St. Catharines on June 21, 1919, the daughter of the late Heward and Ina Harris. She was an active member of the Queen Street Baptist Church in St. Catharines and she attended the Mack School of Nursing, graduating in 1941, after which she worked for many years as a dedicated RN at the St. Catharines General Hospital. She married Lieut. J. Douglas McKinnon in 1942 and they spent a contented life together until his death in 2002. Dorothy was always active and energetic. She was very talented at her hobbies of rug hooking (“the happy hooker”), weaving and other crafts. She was still teaching Dance Fit classes at age 66. In her twilight years she was sustained by her love of books. Most of all, she was a warm, gifted mother and grandmother who had a caring heart throughout her life. She was the mother of Mary-Jean (Chris), Kent (Debbie), and Maxine (Norbert); grandmother of Maggie, Paige, Connor, Katie, Victoria, Tara and Andrea; great grandmother of Hannah, Liam, Jake, Ethan, Zachary, Max, Abby, Ella and Oliver. She was predeceased by sister Eloise and brothers Ralph and Donald.Dorothy will always be remembered for her kindness, irrepressible optimism and strong love of family.
