We are saddened to announce the passing of Erich Nomm on Sunday, August 4, 2024 in his 99th year. His wife Evy predeceases him. He leaves behind many relatives and friends in Estonia and Canada, especially his longtime friend Valve and her daughters, Cindy and Katrin, as well as cousins Gertrude, Kadri and Mark.
Erich was born in Tallinn, Estonia and he left just before Russian forces reoccupied Estonia in 1944. After World War II, he lived in several countries in Europe, only to end up in England in 1947, where he continued his education and got married. After Christmas in 1951, Erich and Evy emigrated to Canada, greeting the New Year in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and arriving in Halifax in 1952. They settled in St. Catharines. Erich worked as a senior engineering technician for 28 years at Acres International Consulting Engineering Firm (formerly H.G. Acres & Co. Ltd.) in Niagara Falls. He was a 50 year member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT). His main hobby was photography and he was a former member of the St. Catharines Photographic Club, winning several awards and honourable mentions in competitions like the Toronto International Salon of Photography. Erich was a philatelist, owning a sizeable stamp collection. He was also a member of the Estonian Lutheran Church.
In keeping with Erich’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines. Interment to follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, Queenston Street, St. Catharines.
