Peacefully at St. Catharines General Hospital on December 7, 2013 in her 85th year. Predeceased by her parents H. Wray and Annie (Moore) Rubel. Survived by her loving husband of 56 years Donald. Beloved mother to Robert (Dianne) Bennett and Becky (André) Lalande. Precious grandma to Nathalie and Sophie. Gloria will be fondly remembered and missed by all of her extended family.
We love her dearly and will miss her greatly. She had a beautiful smile and a great witty sense of humour. Gloria proudly grew up in Port Colborne and has stayed in touch with her grade 13 Lunch Buddies. She enjoyed most sports and especially excelled in softball, being inducted into the Welland Wall of Fame. Educated at Victoria University (Toronto) and Queens University, Gloria taught Girls’ Physical Education & Health and was a successful basketball coach for a decade at the St. Catharines Collegiate & Vocational Institute. Her proud students have kept in touch with her. Gloria had a strong, vibrant Christian faith as evidenced by her many years of dedicated service at St. Paul Street U.C. She mentored several young Communicants, was an Elder, organized and led Midweek Girls groups, and proudly served on Church Council including a term as “Madam Chairman”.
