

Neuperger, Imre – passed away peacefully at St. Catharines General Hospital on Thursday March 30, 2017 at the age of 90. Loving father of Frank (Donna) and Emmery. Dear friend and companion of Justina Banyai (“Honeyka”) of Buffalo NY for 36 years. Papa (with the fishes) will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Erica Neuperger and Alex Neuperger of Arizona. Imre is survived by his brother Endre (Manyi), nieces Bernadette and Livia and nephew András in Hungary. He is also survived by the mother of his children Olympia Neuperger and in-laws Victor Marx and Görgyi Marx. He was predeceased by his parents Ference and Erzsébet and brother Ference (Sari).
Imre was born in Szentbékkálla, Hungary on September 11, 1926 and served in WWII. He escaped from Russian occupied Hungary in December 1949 and after a stay in Austria as refugee he came to Canada in 1951.
Imre worked at General Motors. Prior to his retirement, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (Classics and Linguistics) and a teaching certification. He served 2 terms as President of the Hungarian Cultural Society in St. Catharines and was a member of the Pannonia choir. He was also member of the Club Heidelberg Choir. He was a faithful Parishioner at Saint Alfred Church.
Imre was a voracious reader in 5 languages, an avid gardener and enjoyed sailing his boat and the family fleet, bicycling, the comradery of his fishing club and piano music. He liked making things and inspired his sons to do the same. But his greatest passion was spending time with Justina.

The Family will receive friends on Monday, April 10th from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the HULSE & ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 75 Church St. (905-684-6346). Funeral Mass on Tuesday , April 11th at 11am at Saint Alfred Roman Catholic Church, 272 Vine St. Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Port Dalhousie. A reception will be held at the church following the interment. Flowers are welcome and donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or PBS Channel 17.
