Janice Carol Sheppard

1931 – 2025

Janice Carol Sheppard passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, having gratefully lived a very full life with the love and joy of family and friends.

Predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Ross Sheppard (2012) and daughter Carol Ohlsson (1993).

Janice is lovingly remembered by her sons David (Christina) of Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Kent (Maureen) of Sooke, BC., and cherished grandchildren Taylor (Maun) Ohlsson, Jannika (Kyle) Petch, Britt Sheppard, Andrea (Travis) Kaszycki, and great grandchildren Claire, Alannah and Alex Kaszycki.

Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Janice graduated from the University of Toronto in 1951 as a Dental Nurse, and it was there that she met her future husband, the love of her life, Ross Sheppard. Married in 1954, the couple then moved to Ross’s hometown of St. Catharines where together they raised their family. It was also at the U of T that Janice met her lifelong friend Ev Woods and began a close friendship spanning nearly 75 years.

Janice was an avid figure skater in her youth, taking up new sports such as skiing and curling, later in life. Throughout her life she always felt it important to give back to the community through volunteering in associations such as Meals on Wheels, Lionette’s, various School and Church committees, and wherever else she could.

Janice’s love of family was immeasurable as was demonstrated by her desire to maintain a family cottage (that was never particularly “her thing”) and the treasured memories created there, for virtually everyone in the family other than herself.
