Peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the age of 92. Predeceased by her husband Robert “Bob” Munson, and her son Russell Patterson. Born in Fergus, Ontario; the third child of seven for Clayton and Georgeanna Bacon. Jean is survived by four siblings: Bob, Donna, Joan, and Dennis as well as her daughter Cheryl (Richard) Slater, her son Brent (Diane) Patterson, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a step-daughter Wendy (Tom Walsh) Munson, and a step-son Brian (Marcia) Munson.
Coming from humble beginnings led Jean to be an extremely resourceful and proud woman; who led a fulfilling life. Jean grew up on a farm in Ontario and briefly in Saskatchewan. Her profession was a primary school teacher for the Lincoln County Board of Education, retiring in 1989. Jean was instrumental in the organization for entering school choirs in the Kiwanis competitions. She absolutely loved her job and used to say, “There wasn’t a day that she didn’t want to work”. Her love of music did not end with retirement. Bob and Jean spent their winters at Piney Point Mobile Home Park in Florida where she organized the park choirs, kitchen bands, musical parades, and birthdays. There was no end to the festivity planning! Her permanent home until recently was at Heidelberg Village which also created opportunities for Jean to plan social functions. She was instrumental in introducing Bocce Ball to the residents. Her weekly hallway coffee hour and hair appointments were not to be missed. St. Paul Street United Church (Silver Spire) was her place of worship. Jean continued to utilize her many talents with the church by being involved in a number of their activities.
Jean had an adventurous spirit. Not one to stay put, her bags were always packed. On her last trip to Heaven, she entered the pearly gates saying, “Where are my glasses?" She is also likely looking for a Bridge partner and a choir to conduct.
In keeping with Jean’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 1 – 4 p.m. at Hulse & English Funeral Home & Chapel, 75 Church St. St. Catharines.
