May 6, 1921– February 17, 2015
With sadness we mark the peaceful passing of Marion Cowan in her 93rd year at St. Catharines General hospital. Marion grew up a Saskatchewan farm girl in a loving family including four brothers and one sister. Beloved wife of Edgar and mother of Elizabeth, Janet, Ruth, Joyce, Graham and George, she is survived by seven grandchildren, six step grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Marion’s energy and resourcefulness were remarkable. In 1939 she began a fulfilling teaching career in a one-room prairie schoolhouse. As a minister’s wife and lifelong member of the United Church Women, she tirelessly contributed her time and talents to her church community, including the very special group which created hundreds of beautiful and appreciated quilts, many given to Community Care. She will be remembered with great affection.
Visitation will be on Friday Feb. 20 from 10 – 11 am at Silver Spire United Church (366 St. Paul St.), where her husband Rev. Edgar Cowan served as a minister. A funeral service will follow at 11 am in the church sanctuary. Following a luncheon reception at 12, internment will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery on Queenston Rd. Arrangements entrusted to the Hulse and English Funeral Home, 75 Church St. St Catharines 905-684-6346. Online tribute may be made at www.hulseandenglish.com
