

Born In Belfast, Ireland on February 18, 1921 passed away on August 29, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband, Stephen Mitchell (November 23, 1920 – May 6, 1992). Dear mother of Marjorie Elizabeth Shaffer (Bill) of Wheatfield, New York and Donna Marie Rodgers (Sheldon) of Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Devoted Grandma to Richard Bilecki of St. Catharines; Donna Marie Bilecki (Rob) of St. Catharines; Karen McNeal (Mike) of Coldwater; Stephen MacDonald (Philena) of Bucyrus, Ohio and Sherry MacIntyre of Burlington.Loving great Grandma to Elizabeth, Jennifer, Ricky and Ivan Bilecki; Tyler and Timmy Nevils; Lauren and Jessica MacIntyre; Brandon Bilecki; Brandon and Meagan Boswell; Ashley and husband Arsalan, Sheldon Jr., Shaun and Chauntelle MacDonald.Special great, great Grandma to Samera, Skyler, Serina and Abdulraheef. Mary also leaves behind many great nieces, nephews and cousins.Mary spent her time from childhood to early adult years in Belfast. During the Second World War, Mary worked in the war effort on aircraft production (Short & Harland Aircraft Plant). During this time she met her future love, Stephen Mitchell, native of Newfoundland who was Seamen in the Royal Navy.
At wars end, Mary moved to Newfoundland with her husband where they settled for five years and had their first daughter. In 1950 she moved to Ontario to start a new life and complete her family.Mary spent her adult life as a caregiver and we appreciate the wonderful times and many years we were blessed to share life’s experiences and memories with her.Mary had a knack for knowing and understanding the needs of others and did her share of volunteering (Red Cross) and was very compassionate for others. Mary had a spirit of life and knew the value of hard work. Mary lived her life on her terms to the end. Mary always made a permanent and positive impression on everyone’s life. Everyone who knew her were touched by her presence,
No words can express the loss her family, friends and acquaintances feel but she is at peace now.An angel has now come to free our mother from pain and suffering to take her to a place of beauty and serenity where she can once again join her husband, Stephen, whom she loved and missed so very much .The family gives special thanks to Dr. D Dargravel and his caring staff for their support as well as the nursing staff at GNGH Unit C (Yellow Line) for their care of our mother.Cremation has taken place. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so by donating to the Niagara Falls Humane Society or Animal Shelter in honor of Mary’s very special kitty (Pebbles) who was a buddy to her for 21 years or a charity of your choice in her memory.A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at Hulse & English Funeral Home, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines on Saturday September 7, 2013 with visitation from 10:30 –11 a.m.; service at 11:00 a.m.
An informal gathering of family and friends will be held at Niagara Shrine Club, 5621 North Street, Niagara Falls from 2 - 4: p.m. on September 7, 2013. Light refreshments will be served. Shrine Club location is right behind the GNGH.
