It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mary (Maria) Vangeloff (nee Linders) on Saturday November 10, 2012 at home, in her 78th year. Mary is predeceased by her husband John (2011), and brothers Nicholas (1973) and Tom (1994) Linders. Mary will be dearly missed by her niece Lisa Linders and great niece Tenny Linders, as well as by her brother Jim (Jean) Linders, and by nieces and nephews: John (Lisa) Linders, Donald (Janice) Linders, Heather (David) West, Carl (Anna) Kotoris, and Chris (Faye) Kotoris as well as by many great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be fondly remembered by brother-in-law Bob (Robert) Vangeloff and cousin Evangelos (Koula) Kotoris. Mary was a graduate of the St. Catharines Collegiate and McMaster University. She was a teacher for many years with the Lincoln County Board of Education, teaching at Connaught and Dalewood Schools and finishing her career as the head of the art department at Laura Secord Secondary School where she was fondly known as “Mrs. V.”
Community service was a large part of Mary’s life. She served as a representative of the Greek Community for several years and also served as President of the Greek Ladies’ Association. Mary was the original secretary for the Folks Arts Council, and was involved with this group for several years from inception. Mary was also an artist, and put her artistic skills to use creating the original Folk Arts club banners, and running the annual Folk Arts Art Exhibit for 25 years. Mary was a long standing member of the Niagara art community and of St. Katharine Greek Orthodox Church. She had also served as the president of the Lincoln County Women’s Teachers Association. Mary will be remembered for her quick wit and empathetic ear, as she was a natural at supporting others with their difficulties. She was an animal lover and enjoyed the faithful companionship of many pets over the years and will be sorely missed by Perry. A special thank you to all of Mary’s caregivers over the years for their wonderful care, kindness and friendship, and most especially to her final team of Anna, Karen, Jeannette, Brian, and all her CCAC caregivers.
