Pieter "Piet" Vandermeer

Pieter (Piet ) Vandermeer, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Willie, of 66 years, and his only daughter Angie and son-in-law John Van Berkel by his side, listening to his favorite hymn. He was 91. He will be missed by his grandchildren Jonathan (Angela), Randy (Tammy), James (predeceased 2005), Angela (Matt) Birks, and Simone (Justin) Geertsema. They were Opa's pride and joy. Great Opa to Austin, Benjamin (predeceased 2008), Liam, Kade, Kenna, Easton, Lucas, Cassie, Tyson, Levi, and Zoey. Piet was born in De Lier, Holland to Jo and Marie van der Meer. He is survived by his sisters Riet (Jan) and Els (Co). He was predeceased by his seven brothers. He has many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews all over the world.

He started working in the agricultural sector at an early age and built a successful greenhouse business with his brother Hans. His desire to immigrate to Canada was fulfilled in 1974 and by 1976 he started what was known as Vandermeer Greenhouses. He enjoyed bringing new greenhouse ideas and technology to Canada.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 278 Parnell Road, St. Catharines from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. A Celebration of his life will take place on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 11:00 am at Covenant Christian Reformed Church.
