Sue passed away on November 30th, 2025 in Niagara Falls at the age of 76. Sadly missed by her loving husband Paul.
Sue was born at Brookdale Farm on December 15, 1948, in Maxville, Ontario to Charles and Doris Blaney. She would be one of six children: Joan, Doug, Don, Neil and Charlene. She is survived by 13 nieces and nephews and one special “little brother” Blair Yates. She loved visiting the farm to be with her family. The Highland Games weekend in Maxville was always a great event with family and friends.
You could take the girl out of the country but not take the country out of the girl. On August 19th, 1972, she married Paul Chapman. Unfortunately, they had no children, but they created relationships of family and loving care across all dimensions of their lives together.
She graduated from McMaster University in 1971 with a degree in Social Work and Sociology. A fellow graduate of the program, Ginny Gibson, was a lifelong friend. Sue worked for a variety of agencies, including Pathstone. She specialized in family therapy and grief counselling. Her outstanding service to others was recognized by the Pathstone Foundation with The Hope Award. She was the first staff person so recognized.
Sue was a person of deep faith. She was a pillar of St. Georges Anglican Church and served in an exceptional variety of roles. She received the Order of Niagara in 2017 from Bishop Michael Bird for her dedicated service.
Sue was truly a fancy farm girl. Sue loved to entertain and cook. Having people for dinner brought her great joy. She was active in the Peninsula Field Naturalist. She enjoyed bird watching, walks in the countryside, and annual visits to Point Pelee.
Sue and Paul travelled extensively in the world including every Canadian province and territory, the Galapagos Islands, New Zealand, Greenland, Iceland, Scandinavia and river cruising throughout Europe . Sue particularly enjoyed the Arctic.
She was also involved with the University Club of St. Catharines. Sue was involved with a gourmet group through the club for over 40 years. She supported the club through her participation in the annual house tour and other activities.
Donations to St. George’s Anglican Church St. Catharines, Pathstone Mental Health Services or Ontario Nature would be appreciated.
Sue has been cremated. Notice of a Celebration of her life in the spring of 2026 will be provided.
