

He was the beloved husband of Carolyn A. (nee Denison) Redmore; loving father of Christopher Mark (the late Linda) Redmore and Sandra Denise Redmore; devoted grandfather Emilia Josephine Redmore; cherished brother of Anne (Malcolm) Keward and Kenneth (Janet) Redmore; a dear uncle, and a friend to many in his lifetime.
Born in England, Derek obtained a BSc and PhD at University of Nottingham, followed by a post-doc at Washington University with David Gutsche. He joined Petrolite and spent 33 years in R and D starting as a bench chemist and ending up in senior management. His special interests were organic chemicals used as corrosion or scale inhibitors. Some of the work was recognized in the award of Missouri Inventor of the Year in 1981 and later the St Louis Award. Derek held over 100 patents.
With the closing of the Petrolite operation in St Louis, he embarked on a different career as a patent specialist with start-up battery company, Sion Power, in Tucson, Arizona. From there he retired.
Derek served in a number of positions in the St. Louis ACS and later he served as Chair of the southern Arizona ACS.
Derek was an active leader in United Methodist churches in St. Louis and Tucson, especially as a trustee and financial officer.
Derek enjoyed running, biking, golf, listening to classical music, and singing in church choirs.
Derek was hardworking, generous, gentle, kind, and hilariously funny with his dry British wit. He is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Siteman Cancer Center or Webster United Methodist Church, 600 N. Bompart Ave; Webster Groves, MO 63119 would be greatly appreciated by his family.
A Celebration of Derek's Life is Wednesday, May 22 at 11am at Webster United Methodist, 600 N. Bompart Avenue, Webster Groves, MO 63119, preceded by visitation at 9:45am.
