Diana was the beloved wife of Jerry Helbling; loving mother of Laura (Matt Stone) Helbling, Mary (Eric Larkin) Helbling, and Kerry (Mike McCarty) Helbling; devoted grandmother of Harper, Hannah, Nash, and Brayden; dear sister of Kat Beard and Roger (Rita) Allen; dear sister-in-law of Cookie (John) Muntges and Jane (Paul) Christman; sweet daughter of the late Henry and Frances Allen; dear aunt, great-aunt, and a friend to many in her lifetime.
Diana met Jerry at Brown Shoe Company in 1983. Jerry was impressed by Diana, because she worked full time and yet had the determination to earn her Bachelor's in Business Administration at night from Webster University. Jerry and Diana were married in November of 1984, and together they raised three beautiful daughters.
Diana stayed home for a while, raising their girls, and later worked at Clarice's Bridal Fashions for 20 years, retiring in June of 2024.
She loved doing jigsaw puzzles, watching movies and going on date nights with her "Jer". She never missed an episode of Colbert and loved watching HGTV and listening to anything by Billy Joel. She was a huge Mizzou Tigers fan! She decorated the house for every holiday and had a remarkable collection of giraffes and angels of all shapes and sizes.
Jerry was with her every step of the way, learning how to become parents, buying houses, attending graduations, giving daughters away at weddings, and gracefully accepting the indignities of aging bodies. They rode the ups and downs of life together. Jerry’s faithful love carried her through life’s storms, remaining at her side to the end.
Diana was funny, small but mighty, brave, generous, kind, and was always looking for ways to help others. She volunteered to send condolence cards to her fellow parishioners. She was big on sending cards to people, just to let them know she was thinking of them. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 17 from 4-8pm at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street 63109. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 18 at 10am at Saint Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 6303 Nottingham 63109. Private interment.
